I love it when a date turns into an adventure.

Every year Taylor and I have a standing date to a homeschool conference.  This year was a little unique because we were able to finish quicker than we usually do.  Taylor turned the Yukon south out of the Opryland Hotel and I got excited.

We had tried to take a trip to Leiper's Fork a few weeks before.  One of our 4 kiddos got sick and we had to cancel.

We made it there this weekend!

We had just thought we would eat at Puckett's Grocery...I mean isn't that what you do in Leiper's Fork.  It only took us minutes to realize that was not going to the be best spot for us that day.  We relish time we can talk and the band was lively on Saturday.  Although the food looked good we opted for a quieter spot just down the road...a restaurant called 1892.

I had a 3 cheese grilled cheese (with apples) on homemade bread.  The soup recipe must have been straight from heaven.  It was tomato basil.  These were a great combo.

Taylor was not too hungry so he ordered an appetizer of pimento cheese and corn cakes.  It was so delicious I considered eating both our meals!  I am picky about my pimento cheese.  My Great Uncle Gordon made the best pimento cheese ever (deserving a post of his very own) and every time a taste a new kind I always compare it to his.  This was really good! Just behind the restaurant was a baby White's Mercantile (Franklin).  I love that store and this tiny shop is so cute!

The inside was just as cute as the outside.

Salesclerks in this town seem to love their jobs.  They are all so very kind and welcoming.  This Shopkeeper in White's was no exception. Just next door was a beautiful pavilion that was the kid magnet.  Children ran and danced and twirled like they were on stage for all of us.  Elizabeth Jane would have joined right in...but we were on a date.  We will just have to take her back sometime. Everywhere we went there were different vignettes.

You might come out of one shop and find a spot like this.

We walked out on the back porch of one shop and found this.  You know I HAD to get the pic.  There was little creek you could sit and listen to.  People were gathering all over the place.  I LOVED IT! Hands down this was our favorite shop.

I was truly touched by this store/art studio.  One interesting thing about this shop is it is particularly geared toward men.  It has lots of very unique men's gifts. But it was filled with women!  It is also replete with wonderful paper products like custom designed cards and wrapping paper.  He even had a pencil satchel filled with beautiful pencils.  Paper and writing utensils have always been a weakness (or strength) of mine. Shelves and bowls were filled with gorgeous leather volumes of classics all of which were $35.00 each. My love for beautiful books can sometimes move me to complete distraction.

The art was absolutely beautiful.  This installment made me cry...literally.  It was a such a great shop I look forward to going back!  I mean for Pete's sake, even his business cards are a work of art.

 Just beautiful.

Just beautiful.

One of my favorite parts of the entire trip was that you could pull up at any one of many fire pits and make your own s'mores.  It is BYOC though.  The marshmallow and graham crackers are plentiful. Come packing chocolate.    There were so many more shops...the coppersmith next door is great too.  We are just going to leave some for you to explore on your own!  Leiper's Fork is definitely a great adventure.      Links for you: 1892 Precious wooden bowls White's Merchantile David Arms
