I met Cheryl Carbaugh because we both went to the same church. She has a voice like a bird and is absolutely gorgeous. She is beautiful on the outside, but she is also beautiful on the inside as well.
She started and ran a ministry for women, while in Jackson. So many women were blessed through this ministry. And now that she and her husband, Rusty, moved to Texas (at Lakewood Church) she is blessing women there as well. She is a Life Group leader in the Lakewood Women's Ministry. She also is using her singing talents in the choir.
Her story is so encouraging. Not many stories these days include a great Dad...but her's does! She shares about a unique summer and how her Dad loves her in a way that was really special to her heart.
One of My Best Summer Memories
So this is the summer of 1986, I was 16 years old and I had started working my first job. I was so excited about finally making my own money ( as most teenagers) to enjoy.
Every summer, my family went on summer vacations. So when others kids where getting ready for Summer Camp, we were getting ready for another adventure for a week that we could add to our list of places in the US that we’ve been. I’ve been to Niagara Falls, and Cleveland, Ohio to see family, and Washington D.C. to see the White House, just to name a few. So vacations were something that we as a family always looked forward to.
So that particular year because I was working I was going to miss it. Oh, I was so sad. It would be the first one I’d ever miss. So everyone decided that this year they would go to Gatlinburg to see the Smokey Mountains, which made it extra sad for me because I always wanted to go there. I stayed with my Uncle and Aunt because they lived near my job and it wouldn’t be a problem for them to take me to work.
One of the things that my dad LOVES to do is video record EVERYTHING..lol.. and I knew that this trip wouldn’t be any different. So they had recorded them at the hotel in the swimming pool and everyone was saying, “ Hey Cheryl! I know that hate that you’re missing all of this fun..lol” It looked like they were having a blast!
They left on Saturday and usually would come back on a Saturday, but to my surprise they came back early. I wondered if something was wrong and everyone said no. We just didn’t want to be gone the whole week and not have you! My dad said that they came back just to take me on a weekend trip to Memphis ( our town of Jackson was just 45 minutes away) to go to Liberty Land (an amusement park) he didn’t want me to miss all the fun.
He wanted me to have at least a little get away before school started back!
How sweet that my family drove back all those miles and cut their vacation in Gatlinburg short just for me. I don’t think I have a better memory of my family’s love and support for each other than this one.
